Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) functions in many metabolic processes. It is required for the formation of collagen, where it is needed for the hydroxylation of proline and lysine residues. Vitamin C supports the strength and structural function of collagen, and changes in collagen strength. It is involved in bone and cartilage formation as well as wound healing process.
